Each week, we want to take some time to recognize our volunteers who dedicate their time to the Newtown Square Fire Company.
Next up- Chief Chris Young
Chris joined as a fire fighter in 2013. Since joining he has served as Chief, Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief, Captain, and Lieutenant. Chris wanted to join the fire department to continue his volunteer service. He previously volunteered with the Willow Grove Fire Company, Elmer Fire Department, and Elmer Ambulance Corps in NJ.
Outside of the fire company, Chris retired from Air Force and the Defense Logistics Agency. He is a Krav Maga Instructor, enjoys teaching Self Defense, and is a Board Member for the Delaware County Veterans Memorial. He also said “I enjoy spending time outdoors, date night with the wife, any time spent with my children and grandchildren, and spending time with my dog Whitney.”
When asked about his favorite fire house memory, Chris said “Santa Rides and seeing the joy on peoples faces, any and every time we help someone.”
For anyone considering joining, he says “There is nothing more rewarding than helping someone who is possibly having the worst day of their life.”
