.
This week we take a look at our Auxiliary members. The Newtown Square Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary was formed on February 11, 1918, with 20 members. They assisted the all-male fire company in fundraisers, including suppers, dances, fairs, and the yearly minstrel show.

In 1918, the fire company and Auxiliary had its first funding drive, hoping to cover its $700-a-year budget. With the arduous work of the Ladies Auxiliary, in 1923 within six years of the building's completion, the mortgage for the first firehouse was paid off.

An addition to the firehouse was constructed in 1948. This 20 by 33-foot one-story expansion allowed for more garage space and a modern kitchen. A modern kitchen would help the Ladies Auxiliary with their fundraising efforts.

Over the years, the Ladies Auxiliary has changed names to the Women’s Auxiliary and back again. Starting in the mid-1980s, with many husbands helping their wives with functions, they started using just “The Auxiliary.” They officially changed their name in the early 2000s to reflect that.
