| The Newtown Square Fire Company was dispatched shortly after 6:30 PM this evening to 8000 Cornerstone Drive for an automatic fire alarm. Soon after the initial dispatch, the Delaware County 911 Center received additional reports from residents stating there was smoke inside the building. In response, the incident was upgraded to a building fire, bringing in additional resources from the Broomall Fire Company, Rose Tree Fire Company, Media Fire Company, and Manoa Fire Company for the Rapid Intervention Team.
Newtown Police arrive to find the residents self-evacuating the building. Squad 41, led by Lieutenant Harper arrived and located burnt food in one of the units as the cause of the smoke. Members of the Newtown Square and Broomall Fire Companies remained at the scene to ventilate smoke from the structure.
One resident noted that their dogs evacuated with them during the alarm, although the dogs were not pleased with the situation. After spending a few minutes outside and observing the firefighters, the dogs eventually calmed down and were able to return home safely. |
