| Members of the Newtown Square and Broomall fire companies conducted a drill on Monday night focused on Truck Company Operations, specifically on the use of ground ladders. Ground ladders play a vital role during fire emergencies by allowing firefighters to reach people who need to be rescued, as well as providing additional ways to enter or exit a burning building. The ground ladders used by the fire companies come in various sizes, ranging from 10 feet to 35 feet in length. There are also specialized ladders, such as the attic ladder, which helps firefighters access tight spaces inside a house, and the roof ladder, which is equipped with spikes to secure it to the roof while firefighters conduct rooftop ventilation procedures. Directly entering a burning building and fighting the fire is only one part of a firefighter’s duties. Much of their training focuses on support operations outside the building. In actual fire emergencies, it is common for Newtown Square to supply truck company support and ground ladders for Broomall, and vice versa. Practicing together and using equipment from neighboring fire companies provides valuable training experience for all involved. |
