| Well. the volunteers of the Newtown Square Fire Company certainly did not!
The first call for service came in at 4:34am for a fire alarm at the Storage King on RT3 in Edgmont Township. It was determined there was no fire. The same alarm was dispatched again at 6:20am, and again was found to be a false alarm. One minute later at 0621am the Newtown Square Fire Company was dispatched to assist the Rose Tree Fire Company at 6 Preston Road, Upper Providence Township, for a house fire. It was quickly determined there was an actual fire in the home and all units went into service upon arrival.
At 7:53am, while Newtown units were clearing Preston Road, they were dispatched into Marple Township for a house fire on Lorraine Drive. Upon arrival it was confirmed there was smoke in the home, coming from an unknown source. Within minutes the interior firefighting crew was able to locate the source of the smoke and extinguish the smoldering fire quickly.
The remainder of the day was quiet for the volunteers until 7:47pm when they were dispatched to Greer Park on Winding Way for flames seen in the park. The source was located and found to be contained in a barrel, with the homeowner on location with a hose at the ready. Did you know Greer Park is named after Joe Greer, a past Fire Chief of the Newtown Square Fire Company?
Well that’s all for our Sunday (we think), let’s see what the coming week brings! |
