| So you’re probably wondering why we posted a picture of a stairway banister. Well, one call for service today involved a young child who became stuck in the banister. After successfully removing the child, Chief Young penned this story to speak on the incident and how it felt to be a part of the rescue operation. “Today was one of those moments that reminds me exactly why I am proud to be a volunteer firefighter. We responded to a call where a child was stuck in a banister, scared, frustrated and surrounded by worried faces. In moments like that, everything slows down, training kicks in, calm voices matter. Reassurance is just as important as the tools needed for the job. When we finally freed that child, I saw the instant relief on the parents faces, it hit me hard. That look when fear turns into gratitude is absolutely priceless. No paycheck can compare to knowing you helped restore someone’s peace on what felt like the worst moment of their day. It’s calls like these that make the long nights, missed sleep and sacrifices worth it. Being there for your community, especially when families need you most, is one of the most rewarding feelings in the world. Grateful to serve. Proud to volunteer “. |
