Over this past weekend, Assistant Chief Young, Captain McNeill and Career Staff Firefighter Brinkmann of the Newtown Square Fire Company attended the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy Tanker and Water Supply training hosted by the East Whiteland Fire Company. They were joined by Chester County Tanker Task Force members comprised of East Whiteland Fire Company, Paoli Fire Company, Malvern Fire Company, Lionville Fire Company, Valley Forge Fire Company, West Grove Fire Company, West Bradford Fire Company, Kimberton Fire Company, Ludwigs Corner Fire Company and an Engine and Ladder from the West Whiteland Fire Company. Members attending the training received lecture as well as one and a half days of practical evolutions on Tanker Operations.

During practical evolutions, the crew managed a continuous flow rate of more than 1300 Gallons per minute from a draft engine. Fill Site Operations were manned from a fire hydrant to refill tankers. Dump Site Operations were manned by two 4000 gallon portable water folding tanks. The water was then transferred to an additional 3500 gallon drafting tank. The Newtown Square Fire Company does not have a Tanker but does rely on the Tanker Task Force for water supply to fires in some areas of Newtown and Willistown Townships where fire hydrants are not available or scarce. Members attending gained valuable knowledge into Tanker Operations. This will better assist when the need for Tanker Operations arise.
