A timely throwback to 1998. Training is key in the fire service and having the opportunity to have live fire training is an invaluable opportunity. Members of the Newtown Square Fire Company along with Bon Air and Llanerch Fire Companies travel to Fort Indiantown Gap to participate in training on old military barracks that were scheduled for demolition.
After a day of training in which small fires were set and extinguished using different scenarios, the firefighters then let what was left burn to the ground in a controlled manner.
One of the members present was a then 18-year-old, Daniel McCracken. Dan was a member of the Fire Company for 18 years and was a Police Officer for the City of Chester. Dan passed away earlier this month in a non-combat-related death while on active duty with the US Navy.
Dan is second from the right in the group photo and walking in front of the truck in the other.
